North Korea and Iran Storm Out of SC Meeting

The North Korean and the Iranian observers in the UN Security Council stormed out of a session on the incident of a North Korean missile hitting a Chinese fishing vessel in the Sea of Japan and the subsequent attempt by American troops to search an Iranian vessel headed to the DPRK which is suspected to carry ballistic missiles or nuclear material.

HRC Struggles to Apply Legal Definition “People”

The Human Rights Council stays divided over the topic of the right to self-determination of the Abkhazian and South Ossetian peoples. After the first day of discussions on the topic, Russia still standе alone in supporting the independence of the two Georgian regions.

Resolution Passed at DISEC Despite the Disagreements.

Long debates about the amendments of the Draft Resolution took place in the DISEC Committee. There were a lot of opposing views concerning the topic of maritime security. After lively discussion the Resolution was adopted. The last part of the day the Council talked about the issue on missiles and the security implications for the Middle-East.
